Alberta-Germany / Alberta-France Matchmaking Symposia 2016

From October 19-26, 2016, the GCCIR and members of Alberta Economic Development and Trade accompanied a group of 12 innovative Albertan companies on the 2016 Matchmaking Trip to France and Germany. This year, our matchmaking symposia took place in Paris, Lyon, Munich and Stuttgart, marking our second trip to France and our fifth trip to Germany. The first symposium took place on October 19th at the Canadian Cultural Center in Paris, thanks to the generous support of the Canadian Embassy, and the second event took place in Lyon on October 21. In total, 43 French participants came to meet the delegation of Albertan companies. Most of the Albertan companies also participated to a visit to the Minatec Showroom in Grenoble on October 20, between the Paris and Lyon symposia. There, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in nanotechnology in France.

Following a week in France, the delegation proceeded to Germany for symposia in Munich and Stuttgart, on October 24 and October 26, respectively. Over these two events, Albertan companies had the opportunity to meet with 67 German participants. In addition to the formal program, company representatives had the opportunity to enjoy cultural events such as a boat tour along the Seine River in Paris, a visit to the old city – Vieux Lyon – in Lyon, and an excursion to the Ayinger Brewery just outside of Munich.

The goal of these trips continues to be bringing Albertan companies together with potential partners, with whom they can undertake innovative technology development projects supported by either the Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund or the Alberta-Canada-France Collaboration Fund. The inaugural Call for Proposals opened on September 30th for the Alberta-Canada-France Collaboration Fund. The sixth edition of the Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund Call for Proposals opened in November 15, 2016. Applications are due on February 28, 2017.
